Michelin Chef's say....'Save Our Sea'

Written by Published in Food

Spend a pound, save the sea. That's the essence of the recent 'save the sea' campaign, which is being supported by the UK's top Michelin starred chefs who have partnered with the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) in an attempt to put an end to all 'pirate' fishing. With names like Marcus Wareing and Tom Aikens offering their full support, the high end restaurant industry are using their clout to help highlight this vitally important issue

Eleven fine dining restaurants are taking part in this ground level campaign that is encouraging its patrons to offer up a one pound donation in order to fund the EJF in their quest to eradicate illegal fishing.

By supporting EJF's work you will be helping to protect not only vulnerable marine life and oceans but also the people whose lives are affected by this form of piracy. In many countries fishing is still the primary source of income and indeed nourishment. With their livelihoods and food sources in jeopardy these communities are severely affected by what is a blatant breaking of fisheries laws, something which up until now has been largely ignored.piratefishing

Using fishing gear and methods that are banned including driftnets and longlines, it is not unusual for these illegal fishing vessels to haul in endangered species such as turtles, as well as destroying the habitats of thousands of other marine wildlife.

EJF's paramount concern is not only to promote sustainable and ethical fishing but ensure these laws are adhered to. With fish stock depletion now at an astronomical level, we are currently facing a global crisis so this campaign couldn't come at a more opportune time.

Lend your support, get involved and help end illegal fishing today.

To donate to the campaign please either visit the participating restaurants, visit EJF's website or text 'CHEFOO' followed by the amount you'd like to donate to 70070.
