Written by Published in Health & Beauty

Want to try ethical and organic beauty products and don't know where to start? We talk to enterpreneur Laila Sanderson, the mind behind Vertue, a service that curates the best to make us feel good – and look well

Sublime: What is Vertue box and how it works?

Laila Sanderson: Vertue is a green, natural, organic beauty and health subscription box. Our aim is to make it easy to discover and try award-winning, up-and-coming and well-known brands that are good for your health and the environment.

Every month, we deliver 5-7 full size products based on a theme to discover and try. Subscriptions can be for yourself or given as a gift.

VertuetextimageS: What challenges did you face during the initial set-up?

LS: We found the hardest parts were deciding how much products to stock and planning box themes and products months ahead.

S: How your brand contributes to a more sustainable and fair world?

LS: We give 10% of annual profits to environmental, health and food charities and use eco-friendly packaging and suppliers. As supporters of the Real Beauty Manifesto, we believe in purity, compassion, honesty, community, transparency and sustainability.

S: Tell us about your suppliers and how do you choose them?

LS: We only work with brands that have high ethical standards and credibility. After conducting research on their values and practices, we connect to and build good relationships with them. Our criteria for being featured in our box include being cruelty-free, natural, certified organic or wild-crafted, sustainably and ethically sourced, eco-friendly and charitable.

S: In what way does this products benefit your costumers?

LS: The products we choose are good for your health and the environment. All our brands are against animal testing and use the highest quality ingredients. We don’t allow any chemicals, synthetics and known toxins. Only the purest, natural ingredients. When you buy from Vertue, you are buying the best of what the green, clean market has to offer.

S: What are the changes you would like to see in your industry/sector?

LS: I would like to see companies not using greenwashing to attract customers and push up sales by making fictitious green claims. That’s why we are part of the Real Beauty Manifesto, and try to mainly work with brands that are officially certified.

S: What are your plans for the near future?

LS: I would also like to see green beauty and healthy living become the mainstream lifestyle. It shouldn’t be seen as a trend. We would love to be successful and we have many expantion plans for the future, so watch this space!
