WORK IN PROGRESS - New era of responsibility
The Chinese use two characters to write the word ‘crisis’. One stands for ‘danger’, the other for ‘opportunity’. Even in this time of crisis there are undoubted opportunities to turn our passion into projects with the power to transform lives.
Our generation faces a great challenge: to reinvent society as we know it. The deadlines are tight, but transformation has already begun. As we enter a new era – the era of responsibility – we all have a part to play. Even a small act can contribute to making our lives, and the lives of those around us, a more valuable one. We need to encourage one another not to lose sight of our goals.
In this issue we recognise the great achievements of those who have dedicated themselves to improving the lives of others. Often the going is hard, yet they persevere, opposition motivating them to work even harder. These visionaries are the people that inspire us to wake up and look beyond the routine of our everyday lives.
As Bertolt Brecht wrote:
There are people who fight for a day and they are good.
There are people who fight for a year and they are better.
There are people who fight many years, and they are better still.
But there are those who fight all their lives. These are the indispensable ones.
