Dedicated to making social entrepreneurship go mainstream, UnLtd. helps solve some of society’s biggest issues with its unique bottom up approach, providing the tools for ambitious people to develop the confidence, skills and connections to make their ideas for social change a reality.

Established in 2002, UnLtd. is the UK’s foundation for social entrepreneurs, which encourages people to start businesses that give back to the community.

Last year, UnLtd. supported 175 people gain employment that benefitted over 2,000 people across Hackney in its programme, Hackney Connect.

A few of the businesses that were kicked off include BoxUp Crime, a business inspired by founder Stephen Addison’s who lost friends to gang affiliation. Stephen decided that boxing could help educate young people and move them away from a life of crime.

Well Grounded, the brainchild of Eve Wagg, developed unique barista traineeships offering sustainable employment for young people in Hackney.

Budding social entrepreneur Kofi Oppong founded Urban MBA to provide support and mentoring through business and digital skill training to ensure the next generation have the opportunity to fulfill their potential.

After the success of Hackney Connect, UnLtd. is at it again and expanding its area for its latest project, East End Connect. The organization has teamed up with UBS, an international financial services firm that focuses on long-term investment and support into communities

Focusing on Hackney, Barking and Dagenham, which are London boroughs, East End Connect is welcoming social businesses that can inject opportunities and empower people within the local communities – and it is open to everyone. You don’t need to be someone who classes yourselves as a social entrepreneur or have experience either. You just need a big idea that solves a specific issue in these boroughs.

Mark Norbury, the CEO of UnLtd explains. “We’re delighted to be working with a whole new cohort. It’s important and timely that East End Connect is launching now. We know that enterprising, inspiring local people have powerful solutions and can play a much greater role in the economic and social life of our communities.”

The partnership is seeking 42 enthusiastic people who have a thirst for enterprise and wish to begin, grow and scale up their business.

Each successful social entrepreneur will receive a bespoke package of support, such as legal or marketing support, as well as peer-to-peer support networks, mentoring opportunities and more, along with up to £5,000 towards building their business!
