From 14 to 23 of October, the Times BFI 53rd London Film Festival introduced a range of new British, European and world films to the UK capital. The festival hosted the British premieres of major films such as Jane Campion’s Bright Star, Wes Anderson’s animated version of Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox and John Hillcoat’s adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s post-apocalyptic novel The Road.

Beyond the excitement of red-carpet premieres and famous faces, the BFI Film Festival provides a unique opportunity for emerging directors from across the globe to showcase and discuss their work with a public audience who, due to lack of UK distribution, would otherwise never get a chance to see them. Setting aside the highly publicised examples, Sublime looks at five innovative, intriguing works by emerging talent from around the world.
